Just about to mount this bad boy. Most parts have been powder coated, including all the baffles, pipes and even the mount. The only time she will look this clean.
CLUTCHCARGO - that’s the name. He was a funny cartoon seaplane pilot character from a TV show that aired here back in the 60’s. --- It’s a Chicago thing.

Old Timers
Interesting short video on "Old Timer" Alaskan Bush Pilots, from History Channel. Worth watching - a little over 8 minutes long. Check out old timer Oren Hudson, from Alaska, in his 1942 Grumman G-44 Widgeon. Is that a bicycle type chain drive built into the yolk for aileron control? Looks like my old Schwinn 10 speed. Go Oren!
Beaver Balad
Great video with great pictures - even a Beaver with ATV strapped to the side. I have in the past lashed an aluminum fishing boat to the side of the float struts, but an ATV? Really?
Pictures of DeHavilland Beavers doing their thing set to the kinda hoaky "Beaver Song" performed by the Fretless Bar Girls. Pictures from Alaska, Washington, British Columbia, and a few from New Hampshire.

Back in the Day
N888BH was manufactured in 1951 for the U.S. Army. Here is a picture of her from those days, compliments of Neil Aird from his "Beaver Tales" website.
Above right is a view of N888BH from her hard working days hauling hunters and tourists during the old commercial air taxi times in Canada.

1951 Amphib Beaver - New Blog - Here we go
Now we are at 1 Zero Charlie, Galt Airport near Wonder Lake, which is just west of McHenry Illinois. A little bit farther of a drive from the house, but a much bigger hanger and a superior facility with respect to facilities and grounds upkeep and much better, smoother runways.
Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp - 450 HP |
Coming off tundra tire configuration next month. Back to amphibian, the way it was meant to be. Floats newly detailed and sparkling. New avionics out the wazoo; G500 with synthetic vision, GTN 650, GTN 750, electronic GEM and more is being installed right now. Overhauled engine from Covington - just arrived last week, looking very clean and mean. Overhauled prop is finished and ready to install. Will post pictures soon.
